Tajikistan Diplomat Injured In Kunduz Attack
FAIZABAD/KUNDUZ CITY: A diplomat from neighbouring Tajikistan was injured in a gun attack in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Saturday.
Tajikistan Consul Rustam Makhmudov’s vehicle came under attack on his way to Kunduz province on Friday afternoon, the Badakhshan governor’s spokesman said.
Ahmad Naveed Frotan told Pajhwok Afghan News Makhmudov was evacuated to the Doctors Without Borders Hospital after sustaining injuries to his hand.
The gubernatorial spokesman said the diplomat, who is said to be in stable condition, was going to Kunduz without giving information to security officials.
Police spokesman, Syed Sarwar Hussaini confirmed the incident, saying the attackers managed to flee. He added an investigation had been launched into the attack. There was no immediate claimed of responsibility.
Tajikistan’s consulate has been operating for a decade in Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province.
