Pakistan Trying To Scuttle Run-Off: NDS
KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) deputy chief on Wednesday alleged Pakistan was trying to sabotage the run-off election due on June 14.
Gen. Hasamuddin Hassam levelled the allegation at a meeting which was attended by officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Gen. Hassam said Pakistan wanted to harass the ordinary Afghans by firing volleys of rockets and missiles into Afghanistan and aiding militant activities ahead of the crucial vote.
Minister of Interior Omar Daudzai voiced his concern over cross-border incursions by Pakistani forces. He said Pakistan recently fired rockets into Paktika, Kunar and Khost provinces.
IEC Chairman Mohammad Yousaf Nuristan asked security forces to ensure their neutrality in the election process. The panel had taken steps to prevent the mistakes committed in the first round of elections.
