Karzai Suspicious of US Involvement behind Recent Attacks
Kabul- According to reports, Afghan president Hamid Karzai is suspicious that the United States is involved behind the recent deadly attacks in Afghanistan, including the coordinated attack on the Lebanese restaurant which left at least 21 dead.
An Afghan official quoted by Washington Post has said that president Karzai believes that the US government and military have been a hidden force behind the recent attacks.
The official further added that Karzai believes that the attacks were planned to weakn his government and further destabilize the country.
He confirmed that no concrete evidence was available with president Karzai to prove the involvement of US in any of the attacks.
The officials also added that president Karzai’s theory regarding the involvement of US in recent attacks, is based on suspicions that the recent attacks were planned to draw attention away from civilian casualties caused by U.S. airstrikes.
In the meantime, the US ambassador to Afghanistan, James B. Cunningham has told the Washington Post that the reported suspicisons by presiden Karzai represented “a deeply conspiratorial view that’s divorced from reality … It flies in the face of logic and morality to think that we would aid the enemy we’re trying to defeat.”
The top US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Joseph Dunford, rejecting the suspicions, said, “We have spent 12 years trying to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan in the face of threats from terrorist and insurgent networks. To suggest otherwise does a grave disservice to those who have sacrificed for the people of Afghanistan.” (KhamaPress)
