Karzai Appoints Team To Probe Orgun Attack
President Hamid Karzai on Saturday appointed a delegation to investigate a deadly car-bomb attack in the Orgun district of southeastern Paktika province.
Last week, 43 people were killed and 67 others wounded following the car-bombing in the Ahangaran bazaar of Orgun district. Many shops were razed as a result of the blast.
In a statement from the Presidential Palace, Karzai promised compensation to the victims. He directed the body to conduct a thoroughgoing probe into the incident jointly with ulema and local authorities.
The delegation was further ordered to deliver the president’s condolences to victim families and pay 100,000 afghanis in compensation to relatives of each victim. Each injured will receive 50,000 afs.
Headed by presidential adviser Mohammad Tahiri Safi, the team comprises representatives from the Cabinet Secretariat, Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLO), defence and interior ministries, NDS and Attorney General Office.
