Kabul Airport Security Beefed Up NDS
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Wednesday said tight security measures had been put in place to protect the Kabul International Airport.
Weeks earlier, a group of suicide bombers mounted an attack with assault rifles on the airport after, taking refuge in an under-construction building near the facility.
According to security officials, the five hours gunbattle ended with the death of five attackers and injuries to a police general and a security man.
Over the past month, the Kabul airport and the air force employees’ vehicles have been attacked twice by suicide bombers.
At a news conference in Kabul, NDS spokesman Abdul Hasib Saddiqui said a commission, comprising representatives from defence and interior ministries and NDS, took special measures to protect the airport.
He said recent attacks had been unleashed by Haqqani network on the directives of Pakistani notorious intelligence agency. The new measures, he hoped would help protect the country’s vital installations.
