Gen. Dempsey Arrives at Bagram Airbase
KABUL – The US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman on Saturday arrived in Afghanistan on an unannounced visit to meet military commanders on the post-2014 situation in the country. Gen. Martin Gen. Martin Dempsey, who flew from Germany to the Bagram Airbase, is likely to receive briefings from top ISAF officials, including Gen. Joseph Dunford, on future training needs of Afghan forces.
A well-placed source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News that he would also hold talks with Afghan officials on the overall security environment and the number of US soldiers who would stay in Afghanistan. Before his departure from Stuttgart, Dempsey opined the size of a residual US force in Afghanistan should be decided after this summer. (PAN)
