ANA Loses 107 Soldiers in a Month
KABUL – Up to 107 Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel and 467 militants were killed over the past one month, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Sunday. Afghan soldiers conducted 2,209 counterinsurgency operations and 622 search offensives in different parts of the country from March 21 to April 21.
The operations were aimed to maintain peace, dismantle insurgent networks and promote good governance, defence ministry spokesman Gen. Zahir Azimi told a press conference.
Up to 362 suspects were detained, 196 weapons, 559 kilograms of explosives, 23 suicide vests, 473 mines and 72 vehicles and motorcycles seized, he said. During the period, 107 army personnel were killed as a result of 133 attacks and nine ambushes across the country, the spokesman added. (PAN)
