Alasai Residents Initiate Anti-Taliban Uprising
Residents of Alasai district have initiated an uprising to expel Taliban militants from their villages in central Kapisa province, the governor said on Wednesday.
Mehrabuddin Sapi told Pajhwok Afghan News a large number of residents had joined hands with the security forces in maintaining security of their respective areas.
He said the residents were fed up with atrocities of the insurgents and they finally vowed to flush them out. The governor added the uprising group included 46 former illegal armed men, who resisted insurgents jointly with security forces.
Deputy police chief Syed Abbas Sadat said they would assist the uprising members through all possible means.
He said dozens of youth in Sakin Dara and other areas of the district had picked up arms and wanted to flight against insurgents alongside security forces.
He said the Sakin Dara area bordered eastern Laghman province and the issue would be discussed with authorities there.
The Taliban have so far made no comments about the uprising in Sakin Dara, where they set on fire dozens of homes weeks ago accusing the residents of cooperation with the government
