90 Percent of ballots audited.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced Tuesday that around 90 percent of votes from the runoff election have been audited.
IEC spokesman, Noor Mohammad Noor, told reporters that the audit teams have audited 20,501 ballot boxes out of 22,828 boxes so far.
“From 2,000 polling sites 1,100 polling sites were audited,” IEC Chairman Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani said. “900 of them were special audit boxes, out of which 520 sites were announced credible, 50 sites were invalidated and 320 sites were referred to the recounting process.”
In the first round, the IEC invalidated 72 polling sites out of 3,846 sending 697 to be recounted. In the second round, 75 polling stations were voided and 498 sent to the recounting process.
During the third day of the invalidation process 3,000 sites were under scrutiny where 69 stations were invalidated and 496 sites were sent to the recounting process. Similarly, in the fourth round of 5,000 sites, 236 polling sites were cancelled, 1,837 were announced credible and 2,213 were sent to the recounting process.
According to Noor, the final election results will be announced soon and only few days are left to complete the audit and invalidation process.
This comes as Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s camp warned on Monday that they will completely withdraw from audit process and talks on formation of a national unity government if their demands were not met on Tuesday.
Dr. Abdullah’s electoral team pulled out all its observers from the audit process last week, claiming that the audit and invalidation process was not being conducted fairly, according to their observers report from IEC auditing process (Afg Express Report)
