17 Rebels Killed In Kandahar Offensive

Seventeen armed rebels were killed following an operation by Afghan and foreign troops in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.
The clearing up offensive was conducted in the Koka area of the town on Sunday night, the Maiwand district administrative chief, Haji Abdullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said Taliban fighters were meeting in Koka to devise a plan for conducting coordinated attacks on government departments in the provincial capital.
He added civilians did not suffer any harm during the operation. A vehicle of foreign troops struck a roadside bomb after the offensive, causing no fatalities.
The Taliban are yet to comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, three gunmen were detained on charges of target killings in Kandahar, an intelligence department official said on condition of anonymity.
During preliminary investigations, he said the detainees had confessed to their involvement in many target killings in the province.
