100% audit process to be completed tomorrow
Noor Muhammad Noor, the spokesperson for the IEC, told journalists that at least 94% of the ballot boxes had been recounted and audited. He said that 21,343 ballot boxes had gone through the recount and audit process while only 1,485 were left.
240 working teams were busy auditing the votes in a collaborative effort between the (IEC) staff and the United Nations along with national and international observers. Noor added it was a challenging task and he understood Afghans were anxiously waiting for the final result.
On the topic of the objections of presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Noor said the auditing process was moving forward under the rules and regulations established in an earlier agreement between both teams, and the IEC was ready to address the Reforms and Unanimity team’s complaints.
Votes from 502 polling stations were declared as being fraudulent and were voided in the previous invalidation process.
Noor, added that he could not give a specific date, but final result would be announced by next week.
